what is a foley artist and what do they do?
a foley artist is someone who recreates the sounds for a film that hare lost during the filming by using what ever items they can get their hands on to try and recreate the sound. Foley artists need to have a very creative mind and have a good scene of timing,
advantages to using real sounds than sounds on a library is that with real sounds you are moe likely to find something you want/need for the film, plus you can also record those sounds and put them into an editor and edit them a little and you can find some sounds you wouldn't expect to find that sound exactly what you are looking for
they first start off with the main characters (so the actors) then background footsteps then finally they do the prop pass(anything that moves on screen they make a sound for)
examples are for the sword noise in robin hood there as a old spatula and old sword rubbed against each other.
for the imperial walkers the sound used for them walking was the sound of sheet metal being cut
